Professor Stavrakakis received the Diploma in Electrical Engineering from the Aristotelian University of Thessaloniki, Greece, 1983, and the PhD degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Virginia, 1988. Before joining Northeastern in 1994, he was on the faculty of the University of Vermont since 1988.

Professor Stavrakakis' research has been supported by the National Science Foundation and the Advanced Research Project Agency and has been focused on the analysis and design of communication networks. Work has been carried out in the following broad sub-areas:

Professor Stavrakakis has formed and manages the the Communication Networks Research Group at the CDSP Center.

Dr. Stavrakakis is active within the Technical Committee on Computer Communications (TCCC) of the IEEE Communications Society. He has organized and chaired sessions, and has been a technical committee member, for conferences sponsored by IEEE, ACM and IFIP societies such as GLOBECOM, ICC and INFOCOM. He has served as the TCCC representative for ICC'95 conference.
