Professor Devaney received a BSEE in Electrical Engineering from Northeastern University in 1964, an MS degree in Engineering and Applied Science from Yale University in 1965, and a PhD Degree from the Institute of Optics at the University of Rochester in 1971. He is a member of Eta Kappa Nu, Tau Beta Pi, and is a member of the Acoustical Society of America and the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers.

Dr. Devaney is a Fellow of the Optical Society of America. He was formerly the topical editor for propagation and scattering for the Journal of the Optical Society of America. Currently he is a member of the editorial boards of the journals Wave Motion, Electronic Imaging, and Inverse Problems and is an associate editor of the journal Ultrasonic Imaging.

Professor Devaney has more than eighty publications in referred journals, five patents and has presented scientific papers at a number of conferences and universities. He has also contributed articles to a number of books and is the author of the entry on Acoustical Holography in the new Encyclopedia of Applied Physics published by the American Institute of Physics. Besides being a member of the CDSP, Professor Devaney is the Director of Optics Research at the Center of Electromagnetics Research at Northeastern University.
